The Muslim Diaspora Institute is excited to announce the launch of a new Academic English & TOEFL Preparation Course designed for students, researchers, and professionals who plan to pursue higher education in English-medium universities.

Reading

The ability to comprehend, analyze, and evaluate complex academic texts.

Measures understanding of main ideas, supporting details, inference,   vocabulary in context, and rhetorical purpose.

Essential for reading journal articles, textbooks, and research papers.

Skimming, scanning, summarizing, critical reading, recognizing argument structures.

 Understanding a scientific passage and identifying the author’s purpose or main conclusion.

Listening

The ability to comprehend spoken academic content such as lectures, seminars, and discussions.

Tests understanding of main ideas, details, speaker attitude, inference, and connections in academic lectures and campus conversations.

 Necessary for attending lectures, taking notes, and engaging in class discussions.

Effective note-taking, identifying structure of talks, distinguishing facts from opinions, recognizing tone.

Listening to a lecture on economics and correctly summarizing the key arguments.

Speaking

The ability to express ideas clearly, fluently, and coherently in academic contexts.

Includes independent speaking (personal opinions) and integrated speaking (combining reading + listening + speaking).

Needed for class presentations, seminar participation, and oral exams.

 Organization of ideas, fluency, correct pronunciation, academic vocabulary.

Giving a 60-second summary of an academic article, linking ideas logically.

Writing

The ability to produce well-structured, coherent, and evidence-based written texts in an academic style.

 Independent writing (opinion essays) and integrated writing (summarizing reading + listening).

 Required for essays, research papers, theses, and dissertations.

Essay structure (introduction–body–conclusion), paraphrasing, synthesizing sources, academic style.

Writing a 300-word essay defending a position on environmental policy, using evidence and logical reasoning.

Thesis Supervision in Social Sciences & Humanities
