The Muslim Diaspora Research Center (MDRC) is a dedicated hub for cutting-edge scholarship on the histories, experiences, and contributions of Muslim communities across the globe. As the research arm of the Muslim Diaspora Institute, MDRC brings together academics, policymakers, and civil society to foster critical dialogue and produce knowledge that matters.

Our mission is to conduct innovative, interdisciplinary research that deepens understanding of Muslim diasporas and informs policy and practice at national and international levels.

Research Assistant  – Muslim Diaspora Research Center (MDRC)

The Muslim Diaspora Research Center (MDRC) invites applications for the position of Assistant Researcher to support its growing portfolio of research on Muslim communities in Europe. The center focuses on multidisciplinary studies of identity, belonging, migration, Islamophobia, integration, and European-Muslim relations. This position offers an excellent opportunity for early-career researchers to gain hands-on experience in academic research, policy analysis, and community-based studies.

Position: Research Assistant 

Location: Netherlands (hybrid/remote possibility)

Start Date: 10/04/2026

Employment Type: Part-time / project-based, with potential for extension

Responsibilities

Conduct qualitative and/or quantitative research on topics related to Muslim diaspora communities.

Assist in designing and implementing interviews, surveys, and fieldwork.

Participate in the coding and analysis of data (NVivo, Atlas.ti, SPSS, etc.).

Draft literature reviews, policy briefs, and research reports.

Support the organization of workshops, seminars, and conferences.

Assist in project coordination, grant applications, and academic dissemination.

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree in a relevant field (Sociology, Political Science, International Relations, Anthropology, Migration Studies, European Studies, Islamic Studies, or related disciplines).

Strong academic research skills (qualitative and/or quantitative).

Excellent writing skills in English; Dutch and French are an asset.

Familiarity with academic referencing (APA or Chicago).

Strong organizational and communication abilities.

Demonstrated interest in Muslim diaspora studies and European studies.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with software such as NVivo, Atlas.ti, SPSS, Stata, or R.

Fieldwork experience in Muslim communities.

Experience in academic publishing, project work, or NGOs.
